Dowd's Farm Development
2010s-2020s
The Dowd's Farm development, on former agricultural land on the eastern edge of Hedge End, brought the largest single addition of new housing to the town since the estate-building era of the 1970s and 1980s. The development was built in phases, with a mix of family houses, smaller homes and flats designed to modern standards. The scheme included green spaces, footpaths, cycle routes and plans for community facilities. The development was controversial locally, with debates about traffic impact, school places, drainage and the loss of open countryside. Dowd's Farm represented the continuation of the growth that has defined Hedge End's modern history.
