Retail Park Area
Commercial zone centred on the major retail park near the M27 motorway junction
The area around the Hedge End Retail Park on Tollbar Way, near Junction 7 of the M27 motorway. This is a commercial rather than residential zone, dominated by the large retail units, car parks and access roads that serve the retail park. Marks and Spencer, Next, Boots, Argos, Hobbycraft and other national retailers have stores here, and the area draws shoppers from across the Eastleigh borough and beyond. The retail park was developed in the 1990s and has become one of the defining features of modern Hedge End, putting the town on the map as a retail destination. Tollbar Way connects the retail park to the M27 junction and to the residential areas of the town. The area has a car-orientated, out-of-town character that is functional rather than attractive, with large surface car parks and wide access roads designed for vehicle flow. The M&S food hall is particularly popular with local residents and draws customers from a wide catchment. Restaurant and food outlets have been added over the years, providing options for shoppers who want to eat before or after a shopping trip. The retail park is the busiest part of Hedge End on Saturday afternoons and during the Christmas trading period.
